Positive psychology differs from positive thinking <\/strong>in three main ways. First, positive psychology is based on empirical and replicated scientific research. Second, positive thinking<\/strong> forces us to always be positive and in places, but positive psychology is not. Positive psychology recognizes that despite the benefits of positive thinking, negative or realistic thinking is sometimes appropriate. Studies show that optimism is linked to better health, performance, longer life and social success but there is evidence that greater accuracy and precision are more important in some cases. Implications. Optimistic thinking can be associated with an underestimation of risks. For example, we don’t necessarily want a pilot or air traffic controller to be optimistic about whether or not to take off during a storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Positive thinking and positive psychology<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The third difference between positive thinking<\/a><\/strong> and positive psychology is that many positive psychologists have worked for years on the “negative” side of things: depression, anxiety, trauma, and so on. We do not see positive psychology as an alternative to traditional psychology, but as a complement to the difficult results of traditional psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Optimistic attitude<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Positive thinking <\/strong>is another name for an optimistic attitude. It is common to see and find the good in any situation. It literally means facing life’s challenges in a positive way. A person’s positive attitude towards something largely depends on the situation. Simply put, the “everything will be fine” approach is the root of positive thinking. There are many benefits to an optimistic approach<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
